October News

Auction Day
The auction in aid of the Brockagh Resource Centre, which took place one week later than originally advertised, was a great success. Initial indications are that the total raised will exceed €5,000. We wish to thank all who donated items for sale or made financial contributions and all who came along. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the postponement but our auctioneer, Mr Denis Carter, had a bad throat infection on the 15th. Despite this setback and the fact that we unavoidably clashed with the All Ireland football final the turn-out on the day was great and very much appreciated.

We still have approximately €1,000 worth of vouchers and other items for auction. There was not enough time to auction them on the day so it has been decided that these items will be auctioned at a community function in the coming weeks. More information regarding this event in the next newsletter.

200 – 1 Draw
The next draw will take place at 10 pm in Lynham’s Hotel on Sunday 29th September. All are welcome.

Glendalough Farmer's Market
The second Farmer's Market will take place on Sunday October 13th at the Brockagh Resource Centre from 11 am to 4 pm. The first was an overwhelming success, with an estimated 2,000 people attending from all over the county. The October market will be a special 'Harvest Market' with over 50 stalls and a special emphasis on organic produce. Joining the range of original stall-holders will be new organic meat producers, shellfish, local wild game, home-baked bread and pastries, local yoghurt and goats cheese, handmade chocolates and more new craft stalls.

Don’t miss the chance to experience this amazing show.  Children are welcome.  Tickets cost ?8 (adults) and ?4 (children), (?5 concession for students and OAPs) and are available from Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh - phone: 0404-45611 - or at the door on the night.  Proceeds will benefit the G&DDA.

Auction in aid of the Brockagh Resource Centre

This fund raising auction will start at 2.30pm on Sunday 15th September in the Brockagh Resource Centre.  Those intending to donate items for the auction should leave them into the Resource Centre or alternatively contact a committee member who will arrange collection.  We would like to thank all those who have pledged items and appeal for a big attendance on the day.

Farmers’ Market

The first ‘Glendalough Farmers’ Market’ will be held on Sunday, September 8th at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Glendalough.  This exciting new market looks set to become a popular monthly fixture at the new community centre. Over 30 stalls will offer a great range of organic foods, including organic meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, cheese and eggs, locally farmed produce, locally made honey, jams, pickles and preserves, wholefoods, herbs, homebaking, gourmet and ethnic foods, arts and crafts, antiques and curios, plants and flowers, hot vegetarian food and even hand-made ice cream.  Stalls will be indoors and outdoors with entertainment provided by live traditional musicians, face painters and more.
Following in the tradition of the farmers’ markets that are hugely popular in the UK and US, the Glendalough Farmers’ Market offers a unique opportunity for people to buy locally produced goods directly from the farmers and growers.  In an age where people are increasingly concerned about the food they eat, this face-to- face contact offers a rare assurance of quality produced goods.  Also, with no ‘middle-man’, the producers themselves get a real price for their produce and the consumer pays less.  It’s a great deal all ‘round.
The market will be open from 11 am until 6pm.  The Glendalough Farmers’ Market will take place on the second Sunday of every month.  The next market will take place on Sunday October 13th .
For further information contact Sean McArdle at 01-2866596 or 086-3826377 or Ciara Cronin at 0404-45611.
