Community Alert - Coffee Mornings

All our older citizens will be happy to note that our coffee mornings are starting again. The first one will take place on Friday, 11th October at 11am in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh.
The next one is to take place in the RDA Hall in Rathdrum on Thursday 7th November at 11 am.

Personal Alarms

The installation of this year's round of personal security alarms began on Saturday 12th October. The Department has continued to provide a 90% grant for these - although indications for next year are that funding may not be so high.

AGM

At the AGM held on Tuesday 15th October the following new committee was elected:- Paddy O'Gorman - chairperson; Denise Nolan - secretary; Monica Byrne - treasurer; Catriona Murphy - recording secretary. It is good to see some of the younger members of the community getting involved.
The Gardaí raised some concerns about recent thefts of firearms in the locality. Firearms should preferably be stored in a locked safe, broken-down and separate from ammunition. The issue of drugs in the area was also raised - but of more concern is the continued rise in underage drinking. The question being asked of parents is - 'Do you know where your teenager is tonight - and what is he/she doing?' A reminder, too, that stolen property is more effectively traced if the stolen item has a serial number - and the number is recorded. Please continue to report any suspicious activity by ringing 999 or indeed the Garda confidential no. 1800-666111.
The next meeting was scheduled for November 25th. All are welcome.
