Our moist temperate climate tempered by the Gulf Stream is particularly conducive to garden making and in these conditions a wide range of plants varying from great trees and shrubs to herbacous plants and the smallest alpines flourish and prosper. This is why we are known as the 'Garden of Ireland'.Wicklow is an area rich in History and Culture, with a large number of archaeological and historical sites of great interest; from the 6th century monastic sites in Glendalough, to any number of historice houses and gardens.

Travelling to Wicklow

The Wicklow Mountains are a remote wilderness of pleasant surroundings. When visiting you need to check out your requirements and especially your travel arrangements.

Buses: The St Kevin's Glendalough Bus Service is the only year round service to Glendalough, in the centre of County Wicklow. TOURIST DO'S AND DON'TS
DO USE a handbag or shoulder bag that can be held securely. Mind your bag when in a crowded street or place, shops, o when having a meal or drink
DO ALWAYS lock your car securily, when leaving it unattended even for a brief period. Be particularly careful in 'view spots' just hopping out to take that 'quick' photo.
DO NOT LEAVE luggage, valuables - cameras, etc., exposed inside a parked car or luggaged attached to a roof rack. Put them in the boot before taking a drive.
DO NOT GIVE money to children or peeople begging - it only encourages the activity
DRIVING: All traffic drives on the left hand side of the road. Watch out for animals in the mountains. Seat belts must be worn.
